FoodJollys: Wheelbirks Parlour

We are lucky enough to live centrally to a lot of things within the North East. Situated just up the road from us is Wheelbirks Parlour.

The parlour is something I had heard about from my boss.  We decided to venture out one weekend and get an ice cream. It did not disappoint.

The ‘Parlour’ at Wheelbirks was started by the Wife of one of the farmers sons apparently and it is situated smack bang in the middle of a local dairy farm. When you approach on the country road you are greeted by extremely happy looking dairy cows.

Once inside the parlour, you are greeted with an array of flavours set inside a farm shop (obviously – it’s a farm). My selections as always were not great and Mark nailed his. Great – we can share.

We enjoyed a nice refreshing drink and ventured out the back into the Orchard.

Wheelbirks is one of those beautiful hidden gems that everyone seems to know about. It caters to all ages, including kiddies’ parties which have their own specific area. Out the back is the apple orchard, inside which they have seating and play areas and a pony behind the tree’s just waiting to be given free carrots.

Also out back is the Kick Golf area. For anyone not familiar, this is basically a mix of football and golf. The aim is to get the football in the giant hole.

The best thing by far about Wheelbirks, not just the ice cream obviously that’s a given, was the surprise waiting for you in the small shed to the side of the car park. Never before have I seen so many baby cows in one place. Don’t take our word for it but young dairy cows are the cutest thing we have ever seen! They were all huddled together having a secret conversation which more than likely concerned the weird humans staring at them.

A more than happy way to waste away a lazy summer afternoon, we would recommend getting along to Wheelbirks and having a nice creamy ice cream!
